The Mary Burgess Room

The Mary Burgess room, formerly the Elizabeth Waller room, is furnished with a queen-size brass bed by Charles P. Rogers and bedside tables. There is an en-suite bathroom as well as a Victorian vanity and original granite fireplace (nonworking). This room looks out on the new terrace, greenhouse, and gardens. The Mary Burgess room, named after the second owner of the house from 1887 to 1923, is our only first floor guest room, making it the perfect choice for those who prefer not to climb the stairs.
The Hiram Alden Room

Named for the gentleman who built the house in 1840, the Hiram Alden Room is our largest room. It features lovely morning light and a view of the lawn and side garden. The fireplace, with its original blue tiles, is framed by an antique 7-1/2 foot hand-carved cherry mantle. The room has a handsome burled walnut four-poster queen bed, an en-suite private bath, and a Victorian marble sink in a private alcove. The Hiram Alden Room is a perfect spot for a romantic getaway.
The Penobscot Room

The Penobscot Room features a pencil post queen bed. This large room has a pink marble fireplace. There is a private bath and sink in the room, while a dedicated shower is located one step across the hall. Plush terry cloth robes are provided for your convenience.
The Emily Alden Room

This enchanting room was named for Hiram Alden’s wife and daughter, both named Emily. It features a queen-size bed with featherbed and the original built-in bookcase and (nonworking) fireplace. There is an en-suite private bath.
The Annie Partridge Room

Annie Partridge was the third owner of the Alden House from 1923 to 1947. A gingerbread antique queen bed with featherbed is nestled into this light, inviting room with garden views on two sides. The private en-suite bathroom contains a Victorian marble sink.
The Old Belfast Room

This sunny room on the south side of the house overlooks Park Street, and can only be rented in conjunction with the Annie Partridge room, because, since major inn renovations in summer 2020, this room no longer has its own bathroom. The room includes antique twin beds and a dresser, and an original marble sink is tucked into the corner. It is perfect for families and friends traveling together, wherein the Annie Partridge bathroom can be shared. Robes are provided for moving between these two rooms which are across the hall from one another.
In addition to your room, guests have full access to two well-appointed parlors with original fireplaces, a library, dining room, and guest pantry. The shaded porch overlooks the gardens. A granite and stone terrace was installed in 2020 so guests can enjoy additional outdoor space. The owners are on site but reside in a newly constructed carriage house attached to the inn. A Victorian-style greenhouse by Hartley Botanic, was also added in 2020, providing screening and architectural interest to the property.
For your convenience, we also offer free wireless internet access.
